A Few Things to Know Before You Apply

All of the following need to be true for an unused ticket to be applied:

  • Same airline: The unused ticket must be from the same airline as your new booking (e.g. an American Airlines credit can only be applied to a new American Airlines ticket).
  • Name match: The traveler name on the unused ticket must exactly match the new booking. If the names don't match, that's considered a name change — see name change instructions here.
  • One ticket per booking: Most airlines only allow one unused ticket to be applied per new ticket.

How to Apply an Unused Ticket

Step 1: Start a flight search. Follow the standard flight & rail booking steps. Your unused tickets will surface automatically — there's no separate step to find them.

Step 2: Select which tickets to apply. On the Book Your Flight page, all unused tickets matching the traveler and airline are displayed. Select individual tickets or choose Select All. AmTrav automatically determines the best tickets to apply based on credit value, expiration date, and the cost of the new ticket.

Step 3: Apply the credit. Select Apply. Your total due will update right away to reflect the credit.

Step 4: Complete your booking. Finish checkout as usual. The airline will charge any remaining balance to your card. Any leftover credit is automatically saved back to your Unused Ticket Report for future use.
