Flight Add-Ons and Paid Seats: What's Available in AmTrav

You can book and pay for flight add-ons (checked bags, Wi-Fi, priority boarding, lounge passes) and paid seats directly in AmTrav — no need to visit the airline's website separately. Charges are billed at booking on the same card as your ticket and show up in AmTrav expense reports.

⚠ Important: Flight add-ons must be selected during the booking process and can't be added after your ticket is purchased. Paid seats can be selected or changed any time before departure.

How Flight Add-Ons Work

  • Billing: All charges are billed at booking on the same card as your ticket.
  • Timing: Add-ons must be selected during the booking process — they can't be added afterward through AmTrav.
  • What's offered: AmTrav won't show you add-ons you're already entitled to (through your fare, loyalty status, or credit card benefits), or ones you're not eligible for.
  • Refunds: Add-ons and paid seats are technically nonrefundable, but airlines often transfer or refund them automatically when a flight is changed or cancelled. AmTrav may also be able to request a refund on your behalf.

What's Available by Airline

United Airlines

Available on most United fares. Add-ons can be selected per leg on roundtrip and multi-city itineraries. More about United Airlines add-ons.

  • Prepaid Checked Bag: Noted on your reservation — you won't be charged again at airport check-in. Currently limited to one bag per traveler and is $5 cheaper than paying at the airport.
  • Wi-Fi Day Pass: Linked to your MileagePlus number. Covers all United flights departing that calendar day, including connecting flights and redeyes. You won't be charged on board.
  • Priority Boarding: Noted on your reservation and boarding pass. Provides Group 2 boarding for each flight on that leg (as of July 2025).
  • United Club Pass: Grants entry to United Club lounges at your origin, connecting, and destination airports. Does not cover Polaris Lounges or partner lounges.

Frontier Airlines

  • Prepaid First Checked Bag: Available on Economy or Premium Bundle fares. Noted on your reservation — you won't be charged at airport check-in. Can't be added after booking through AmTrav.

Spirit Airlines

  • Prepaid Carry-On and First Checked Bag: Available on the Value fare. Noted on your reservation — you won't be charged at check-in or boarding. Can't be added after booking through AmTrav.

Southwest Airlines

  • No prepaid bag add-on is available through AmTrav for Southwest flights. If you need checked bags, book the Choice Extra fare, which includes two free checked bags as part of the fare.

Paid Seats

Paid preferred and extra-legroom seats are available on American, Delta, Southwest, United, Alaska, JetBlue, Frontier, Spirit, and other domestic and select international carriers.

  • Timing: Seats can be selected at booking or changed any time before departure via My Trips on the Trip Details page.
  • Payment: You may be able to use a different card from the one used for your ticket — handy when you need a personal card for an out-of-policy seat purchase.
  • Fare eligibility: Paid seats are only available when your fare supports seat selection. Basic Economy fares on certain airlines don't allow advance seat selection.
  • Loyalty status: If your loyalty status entitles you to complimentary seat upgrades, those will show as free in the seat map. For example, United MileagePlus Gold members receive Economy Plus and Preferred seats at no charge.
  • Travel policy: Paid seat selection is subject to your company's travel policy and may be flagged as out of policy. You can still purchase an out-of-policy seat with a personal card — you'll just need to provide a reason at checkout.
  • Refunds: Technically nonrefundable, but airlines often transfer or refund paid seats automatically when a flight is changed or cancelled. AmTrav may also be able to request a refund on your behalf.
