How do I book my airline seats?

You can preview, select, and manage seats on your flights in AmTrav — including paid premium seats — before or after booking.

A Few Things to Know

  • Before booking: You can preview the seat map on the search results page, but no seat is held or reserved until after you book.
  • After booking: Seats can be selected right after booking or any time before departure via My Trips.
  • Policy: Paid seats may be flagged as out of policy, but you can still select and pay for them with a personal card — you'll just need to provide a reason at checkout.
  • Loyalty perks: If your airline loyalty account includes complimentary premium seats, those will show up as free in the seat map automatically.
  • Refunds: Paid seats are technically nonrefundable, but airlines often transfer or refund them automatically when a flight is changed or cancelled. Contact an AmTrav Advisor if you need help with a specific situation.

How to Select Seats

Step 1: Preview seats before booking (optional). On the search results page, select Seat Map on any flight to preview available seats across all cabins, including prices for paid premium seats. This is a preview only — no seat is held or reserved.

Step 2: Select seats after booking. Right after completing your booking, the Trip Summary page will prompt you to Add or Change Seats.

  • Ready to pick your seat now? Select Add or Change Seats to go to the seat map.
  • Prefer to choose later? Select Close to skip — you can come back any time before departure.

Coming back later or need to change a seat? Go to My Trips, open the booking, then either select Select Seats on the Trip Details page to manage all segments, or select Pick next to a specific flight segment to update that seat on its own.

Step 3: Choose your seat. The seat map shows a legend at the top explaining each seat category. Seats are marked as free, paid (with the price shown), or occupied.

  • Select a seat, then select Select to confirm it.
  • For multi-leg itineraries: select Next after each segment to work through all your flights.
  • Once all seats are chosen: select Save for free seats or Purchase for paid seats to confirm.

Step 4: Pay for your seat (paid seats only). If you selected a paid seat and chose Purchase, you'll land on the Purchase Seats page.

  • Select a saved card or enter a new credit card.
  • If the seat is out of policy, you'll need to enter a reason and explanation before completing the purchase.
