⚠ Important: As of May 7, 2025, all travelers must present a REAL ID or other accepted form of identification to pass through TSA security checkpoints.
REAL ID Resources
Here are the key resources to help you and your travelers get and verify REAL ID compliance:
- Check your state's REAL ID status: DHS state-by-state REAL ID guide — includes a REAL ID compliance test by state.
- See what other IDs are accepted: TSA list of acceptable identification — a valid passport, military ID, and other forms of ID are also accepted in place of a REAL ID.
- Get a REAL ID: Find your state's DMV for requirements and instructions on obtaining a REAL ID.
- General questions: REAL ID FAQs from the TSA.
What If a Traveler Doesn't Have a REAL ID?
The TSA's official position is that travelers without a REAL ID-compliant license or accepted alternative will not be permitted through security as of May 7, 2025. In practice, some travelers without a REAL ID have still been able to pass through — but this is not something to rely on. The safest course of action is to get a REAL ID or carry another accepted form of identification such as a passport.
